MERINO SOURCING

Merino wool is a staple raw material of the FINDRA Seamless Performance range of garments and accessories. Our range includes 100% Merino and Merino technical wool blends.
Merino is a truly amazing natural fiber with many benefits to the wearer.

  • Merino wool breathes and manages moisture better than any other fiber
  • A Merino fiber can absorb and retain up to 30% of its own weight in moisture.
  • Merino fibers are extremely fine, enabling them to bend far more than traditional, coarser wool fibers. This makes Merino wool feel soft and luxuriously gentle next to your skin.
  • Natural elasticity helps Merino wool garments stretch with you, yet return to their original shape. So Merino wool clothing is ideal to wear when exercising.
  • Merino fibers can absorb large quantities of moisture vapour then move it away to evaporate into the air. Therefore, Merino wool clothing is extremely breathable and less prone to clamminess.
  • In contrast to synthetics, Merino is an active fiber that reacts to changes in body temperature. It helps you stay warm when the weather is cold, and cool when the weather is hot.
  • Because Merino wool can absorb moisture vapor, it tends not to create static electricity, helping it to drape beautifully and still feel dry to the touch.
  • FINDRA merino wool travels from ethically sourced suppliers in New Zealand to be spun in Italy. We then bring the spun wool (supplied on cones) to the UK where it is then made into one of our Seamless Performance Merino garments or accessories.
  • The merino wool used in all FINDRA products is ethically sourced and certified ‘non-mulesed’ – our suppliers are Zque™ accredited suppliers. Our suppliers work with a number of Merino sheep farmers in New Zealand. Mulesing is a controversial procedure in which strips of skin are removed from around the breech (buttocks) of a merino sheep to protect the animal from ‘myiasis’. More commonly known as ‘blowfly’, this is an infestation of parasites attracted by the urine and faeces that build up in the breech area. If untreated, the infection can lead to septicemia and ultimately death. Though undoubtedly effective in combating blowfly, animal rights campaigners claim mulesing causes unnecessary suffering, a view endorsed by an increasing number of wool farmers.
